I ran across the Whole30 program/book while perusing one of my favorite clean eating Instagram feeds and thought it would be a good read. I'm always up for a challenge and, after finishing the book, decided I would give it a try. For those who haven't heard of the challenge, you go 30 days eating only natural/grassfed meats, vegetables, fruits, select nuts and healthy fats {I like to focus on what you can eat :) }. The point of the challenge is to heal your gut and help you develop a healthy relationship with food. I'd made big changes to the type of food I was eating but I was still obsessing over every calorie....it was exhausting. During whole30 your focus is health....skipping the need for the scale and counting calories.

I finished my first challenge mid-june feeling strong, healthy and so much more knowledgeable about my body. I also learned
- If I fuel my body with foods that cause satiety then there is no need to count calories......praise!!
- My body burns sugar before it will burn fat. Remove the sugar and my body gets the chance to work on that pesky fat.
- My body works best if I give it a rest....no need to kill it everyday
- I really enjoy cooking and found a love for good food.
I enjoyed the challenge so much that I've chosen to not permanently add back in any additional food groups {unless you consider wine a food group}. Don't get me wrong......I've had ice cream and a hamburger bun here and there but for the most part I'm sticking to lots of clean eating. My family is also reaping the benefits of lots of healthy meals :)
If anyone is interested in the Whole30 challenge I would highly recommend the book It Starts With Food. I also started an Instagram feed during my challenge that documented what I was eating.....@how2lovaveggie .....and I still update pretty regularly. There are also great blogs and other feeds that I'd be happy to pass along with great information, recipes and encouragement.
