Some stuff.....
Still here, still alive and my back still hurts! I'm ok if I'm up and moving but the minute I sit.....ouch. This is no bueno for a gal who sits on her heinie the majority of the day. Ok......enough complaining.
With the exception of my aching back, life has been peachy around these parts. The weather has been lovely, which always puts me in a good mood, and we've been taking advantage of the long days. I initiated our first family walk of the Spring/Summer last night after eating way too much for dinner and feeling like Violet from Willy Wonka. The dogs loved getting out of the yard and I predict a lot more evening strolls as I continue to need to "walk it off".

Sweet Surprise
There are several things that Oregon is known for, but customer service ain't one of them. Ok....it may be presumptuous to put the whole state in that category, but it's a fact of life in Eugene & Portland. Since it is so rare to get good service around these here parts, Jody and I tend to make note of being treated as welcomed guest in an establishment. A couple Saturdays ago we went and set up our main baby registry at Fletcher's, a local run baby emporium. That is where I met my new BFF and registry saviour, Nikki. That sweet lady walked us around the entire store helping us decide what we needed and explaining every product as we went along. She was crazy knowledgeable about everything from car seats to pee pee teepees and was never pushy. Anyway, the cherry on top came when she called yesterday to tell me to stop by the store for a pickup. When I got to the store there was a sweet gift wrapped in blue paper from, who else, Nikki. What was inside the box? Well she got us the one item of clothing that Jody specifically requested......

Nikki's kindness really got me thinking......When was the last time I did something nice for someone else? No birthday, anniversary or Christmas......just because I knew it would make someones day.
Hmm....Maybe it's time we all pay it forward.

An Amazing Weekend!

What an amazing weekend! Jody and I were itching to get up to Seattle to start checking out our new home and we couldn't have picked a more perfect weekend. The weather was unseasonable clear and rain free, which made exploring much more enjoyable.
We headed up on Friday afternoon and made a pit stop to visit with Jody's grandparents. They put us up for the night and we headed north early Saturday morning. Once we got to Seattle we drove around for hours checking out Green Lake, Wallingford, Fremont and Ballard. Late in the afternoon we headed downtown for some shopping and dinner. Jody purchased some new jeans, since he has lost weight, and I purchased some maternity tops, since I'm expanding rapidly. We didn't forget about the sweet P and bought him/her this adorable little onesie......

it's covered in little vespas♥

Sunday morning we woke up and explored Queen Anne and Magnolia before heading to brunch at Toulouse Petit. The food was really good but the best part was getting to see a familiar face from Valdosta. Catherine has lived in Seattle for a few years now and it is always great to catch up with her. It's also really nice to know I'm going to have a southern gal to hang with when we finally get settled.

The last thing we did before heading out of town was head over to Mercer Island. Jody's dad, Jim, grew up on Mercer Island and we wanted to see his childhood home. We took this picture for Jimbo........memories like the corner of my mind♪♫

ps....I can't believe I'm having a baby
To Cloth or Not to Cloth
This past week I officially entered the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy and I have started making my preliminary "must have" baby list. Along with research on car seats & strollers, I've also been thinking a lot about diapers. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but our budget for the first 7 months after law school is going to be very tight and diapers are a huge expense. I read several blogs of mama's that cloth diaper, it's been amazing to read how much they save and how easy it can be.
From the majority of reviews I've read, I'm leaning toward the Fuzzibunz One Size diapers.

Each diaper runs about $19, so it's an investment in the beginning, but the one size diapers adjust for a newborn baby all the way up to 30lbs. Here's my breakdown in dollars over a year...
Disposable diapers per month = approx $150.00
$150 x 12 months = $1800.00
20 Cloth diapers = $380.00
Disposables for night sleeping/travel = approx $300
Total with cloth & disposables = $680.00
Total savings using cloth year 1 = $1120.00
Total savings using cloth year 2 & 3 = $1500.00
These are obviously just rough estimates, especially since I'm not positive how many diapers a baby uses in one day, but it's obvious that cloth diapers will save us a substantial amount of money. The downside of cloth diapering is that it's not near as convenient as disposable diapers and it requires doing more laundry. With that said, I think we would stick to disposables at night and for traveling in the beginning to keep things simple.
If any of you mama's out there have helpful information ya'll would like to share about cloth diapers, from personal use or friends who use them, I would love to hear from you. We haven't completely made up our mind but I can't think of any reasons to not give it a try......even if it's a bust.

Gift
Last weekend I met up with some of my girlfriends to paint pottery and drink champagne - correction - watch them drink champagne. The girls were in a super creative mood, while I was feeling very uninspired. Nevertheless, I had a really good time and painted a little something special for the nugget.

Nothing says love like a gender neutral pig!

Pregnancy Story
So about 6 months ago I joined a forum for women struggling with infertility. For the most part these women were terribly helpful and offered a lot of support but, at times, they were borderline crazy. It's because of these crazy women and their home remedies that I found out I was pregnant and now have a great "how I found out" story. It all started out with an herbal supplement called Chasteberry {look it up} and ended up with an ultra sound. Below is the story in bullets......because it's just easier that way.
- Crazy forum women convenience me that Chasteberry would be great to help regulate my cycles
- Sweet lady at the local organic vitamin store tells me I can't take Chasteberry if I'm nursing or pregnant........I laugh
- Sunday night I set out my workout clothes, my plethora of vitamins and a pregnancy test......I laughed but I'm still responsible
- Woke up at 5:00am Monday, December 13th and took the pregnancy test
- Got dressed and was running out the door when I remembered the stupid stick and the vitamins.
- Stick had a very purple vertical line and a super, super faint horizontal line
- Annoyed I got out the paper and convinced myself it was a faulty test
- Went to my Tabata class, had breakfast, got ready for work and headed out the door
- Stopped at the Walgreen's by my office to get another test
- Got to work and couldn't stop thinking about the pregnancy test in my purse
- Curiosity got the best of me and I took the test at work
- Not sure the pee even made it on the stick and 2 lines showed up.......pregnant!
- Almost fell off the toilet, started crying and then got on my knees {gross} and started praising Jesus
- Stuck test in my panty hose and told the girls I forgot something at home
- Garage door goes up at my house and Jody is standing in the doorway looking terrified....it's only 8:30am
- I get out of the car crying.......he thinks I got fired
- I tell him we're pregnant and he says "so what do we do now?"......my answer "no clue"
- We call the doctor and they have me come in for a blood test
- Nurse calls and tells me I am definitely pregnant and she thinks I'm further along then I think {my guess was 2 weeks}
- Had to wait 3 whole days before I went for the ultra sound and was VERY unproductive at work
- Went for the ultrasound and the tech said "6 weeks and 1 day"
So there you have it, our pregnancy story in 21 bullets.
With Love,

Infertility
I spent the better part of last night looking at all my blog posts from the last year and reminiscing about all that can happen in a year. There were trips, birthdays, evenings out, and tons of random ramblings that only I might find humorous. What you will not find mixed in with all those events are posts about the trials and tribulations associated with infertility. For those that know me personally, the news that we struggled with infertility is no surprise. But there are few who got to see the pain up close and personal, to receive the tear filled phone calls, and to hear the hopelessness in my voice.
I have longed for a child since I blew out the candles on my 30th birthday cake. Unfortunately, three years of law school still laid ahead with only a single paycheck to support the family. When we finally decided we were ready, I was confident that within six months we would be pregnant and my wait would be over. Months passed with a non-existent cycle and little hope of conceiving. My doctor intervened at four months and I began what would ultimately turn into several months of pill treatment to start my cycle, make me ovulate, and would eventually end with yet another negative pregnancy test. In early August, my doctor called to inform me that she had done everything she could do and referred me to a fertility specialist. It was a two month wait to meet with the fertility doctor and in the meantime I started my period and turned 32, both of which caused major devastation. I had set my birthday as a deadline--crunch time--and when that day came and went, the realization of infertility set in.
In late October, we finally got to see the specialist. We forked over $450.00 for the initial consultation and found out that in his professional opinion, there was "nothing wrong".....I begged to differ. After several blood test they decided to hit the ground running and set us up on a pretty aggressive pregnancy plan with an equally aggressive price tag. I was worn down from it all and I think my husband knew it. Jody put the brakes on any further procedures and requested that we wait until 2011 before we started any new treatments. I was hesitant, but also exhausted from a year of focusing so much of my energy on starting a family. Now looking back, I see God's hand in it all.......he had a bigger, better plan, and only a week after we decided against any new procedures we were pregnant.
Even though this year has been a challenge in patience and trust, it has also been a year of growth and surrender. It's hard to recall now how many conversations I had with God face-down crying into the carpet and he continued to tell me to wait. I watched as friends and family members became pregnant and delivered babies, and he continued to tell me to be patient. He brought amazing women into my life that were also struggling with infertility and He showed me I was not alone. My heart broke a million times in one year. Then, He said, "surrender to me," and I did. I gave it to God......all my pain, sadness, and hopelessness. I prayed that He would open the door to adoption or fostering if that was the way He wanted us to become parents. Whatever His will was I wanted it because my will was crushing my joy. At my lowest point, He saved me. He gave me peace and he opened my womb.......even though I wouldn't know it for six weeks.
I'm posting this on my blog for two reasons. First, I want everyone to know that this pregnancy was a gift. When women announce they are pregnant, it often sounds so easy. For some it is, but you rarely hear about the struggles other women have when becoming pregnant or when they lose a child to miscarriage. So many women feel alone in their struggle when they are actually surrounded by women going through the same thing. Second, I don't want to forget to seek the Lord's guidance not only in the rough seasons of my life, but more importantly in the joyous seasons.
