So this morning I am heading to the doc to have an ultra sound. Obviously this is what you do when you have "sleepy ovaries" {see previous post}. The nurse called yesterday to remind me of my appointment and gave me some pre-procedure directions which made my world pear shaped. The conversation went like this.....
Nurse: 1 hour before your appointment empty your bladder and then during the next hour we need you to drink 33oz of water and come to the appointment with a full bladder.
At this point I'm only concerned about the size of 33oz of water. If we are friends/family you know that I have inherited an extremly small bladder from the Warren side of my family. By small I mean small {we're talking 6oz small}. This is the same bladder, that if left unattended to, will pee my pants.....don't laugh....it's happened on several occassions. The nurse continues....
Nurse: The appointment should only take about 45 mins. Do you have any questions?
Me: Um Yes.....so you are saying I have to hold it for an 1 hour & 45 mins?
Nurse: That is correct
Me: Really?
Nurse: Yes
So in addition to a small bladder I have also developed pee anxiety in the last few years. When I know that i'm not going to be able to go at my leasure it makes me nervous {car trips, plane rides, DOCTORS APPOINTMENTS} and it becomes all I can think about.
Then I panicked.....Do they make you do this everytime you have an ultra sound? Surely they would not make expecting mothers with a child bearing down on their bladder go through such torture. Do they? Maybe my ovaries are trying to tell me something.
With Love,

Oh my...I can see why you might be feeling anxious. I have had a small handful of ultrasounds in my day, and most of them, thankfully, do not include the full bladder requirement.
ReplyDeleteHowever...I have had one of those too, and I can admit that it was a teensy bit uncomfortable given that I had to pee terribly bad. But...I made it through just fine, and I'm sure you will too! Good luck!
Yes girl! I had to have a "full" bladder when I had my pregger ultrasounds. The first time I kinda stressed about it. The 2nd time, I didn't even worry about. It wasn't a problem. I think it is all a conspiracy.
ReplyDeleteMine was the opposite...they asked for a urine sample before hand. I'll be rooting for you and your bladder to cooperate!!
ReplyDeleteThere actually is a disorder like that. It's not exactly called "pee anxiety disorder", but that's the basic idea. Kris' cousin has it except his involves #2. Good news, it could be worse! Hope the ultrasound goes well!
